Join us at our gem mine in the wildflower meadow.  At the mine shaft, dig a bucket of dirt rich in gems.  Take it to the flume by the creek and pour some of the dirt into a gem screen.  Wash away the dirt while you look out at our Randall Glen mountain, then sort through the gravel that’s left. Pick out the gems, some as big as your fist:  rubies and sapphires, emeralds and amethysts…citrine and smoky topaz, rose quartz, green and purple fluorite, milky quartz, red and yellow quartz, and lots of garnets too.  There’s nothing like the excitement of mining your own treasures.

Yes indeed—we do have gold in our creek!  We find plenty of placer gold right here by the flume, and most gold that we’ve tested from our creek tests out at 18K or over.  Try it out!  For a flat fee you can pan all day “like the prospectors” and take home all the gold you find. We provide the pan and full instructions, plus a free vial for your treasure. We can’t guarantee you’ll retire on the proceeds, but we bet you’ll find some gold and we know you’ll have a great time

There’s so much to do at Randall Glen, we invite you to bring a picnic and stay all day. Besides gem mining, we have mountain trail rides on horseback and beautiful hiking trails. Our farm animals always welcome visitors, too. We have sheep and goats, ducks, chickens and geese—even llamas!—and in the spring and summer we’re filled with baby animals. We have a great landscaped picnic ground with games to play, and a covered wagon for imaginary pioneer journeys. At the Barnhouse center there are gifts and T-shirts, Gem Mining gift sets, soft drinks and snacks. And we’ll bet you never have seen a more beautiful country setting.

You’re always welcome at Randall Glen. All year round, we’re mining whenever weather permits. Randall Glen Gem Mine is open from 10 AM to 5 PM (From November through April, give us a call at 828-683-5758 to check on weather before you come.) The mine is closed on Mondays to allow for mine upkeep, but hiking, horseback riding, and picnicking is available 7 days a week. Come and visit—we’d love to see you!

GEM DIRT

We dig our gem dirt high on our mountain and bring it down by the flume where you can mine it.  You can have the fun of digging your own dirt, or we’ll be glad to dig it for you.  Our gem dirt is rich in native rubies and sapphires, many of cuttable size and many star sapphires and star rubies.  It’s common to find 100 to 300 carat stones here at Randall Glen, and every season some giants are found—1200 carats and up!!  Our gem dirt is full of many other kinds of gems as well.
