The Most Beautiful Mine in North Carolina
Join us at our gem mine in the wildflower meadow. At the mine shaft, dig a bucket of dirt rich in gems. Take it to the flume by the creek and pour some of the dirt into a gem screen. Wash away the dirt while you look out at our Randall Glen mountain, then sort through the gravel that’s left. Pick out the gems, some as big as your fist: rubies and sapphires, emeralds and amethysts…citrine and smoky topaz, rose quartz, green and purple fluorite, milky quartz, red and yellow quartz, and lots of garnets too. There’s nothing like the excitement of mining your own treasures.
10 AM to 4:30 PM. Start your last bucket by 4 PM.
The gem mine is closed on Mondays.
Open year round, weather permitting. From December 1 to April 1, call before you come (828-683-5758) in case the flume is frozen.
